Gayatri Mantra at Westminster Abbey

The Commonwealth Day 2010 Service at Westminster Abbey in the presence of the Queen, the Head of the Commonwealth, was led by the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, the Dean of Westminster. Leaders from major faiths were invited to say prayers, and Anil Bhanot, representing the Hindu community, recited the Gayatri Mantra in its 24 syllable Vedic metre:

Om Bhur Bhuvah Swah; Tat Svitur Vareniyam.

Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi, Dhiyo, Yonaha Parchodayat.

O’ Supreme Lord, I worship you who illumines all the three domains of existence: the earthly Physical, the celestial Astral and the divine Causal; for you are the Creator who anoints the entire Creation with your most adorable divine light.

May that resplendent inner light bestow its wisdom, upon our intellect, to always guide us in the right direction.
