Olympics Opening Ceremony
The Red Arrows fly-past did their brilliant salute at exactly 20:12 and Danny Boyle’s extravaganza started at 9pm. It was a good show but for me lacked the ‘wow’ factor, maybe because I saw some of the special effects modelled on the Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi. I was expecting something visual on the Great British scientists and engineers, like Newton, Faraday, Brunel and so on but there was too much on emphasis on Film fantasies, still a good effort on the Industrial Revolution and the NHS. The Queen with James Bond was funny.
My son saw Stephen Hawkins there, how wonderful it would have been to see something on his brilliant work. The country needs scientists, engineers and great mathematicians again and this would have been an opportunity to inspire our youth.
The speeches by Lord Coe and the Chairman of the Olympics committee gave a good message: ‘Respect your opponent and compete by fair play’.
